From then it was believed that Aspartame causes adverse reactions based on its documented symptoms. This includes the following:
- Headaches/migraines
- Dizziness
- Seizures
- Nausea
- Numbness
- muscle spasms
- weight gain
- rashes
- depression
- fatigue
- irritability
- tachycardia
- insomnia

Although in most cases, the most common complaint of the persons who suffered on the Aspartame effect is memory loss, it may also cause serious effects like seizures or worst, death. The reason behind this is the effect of the substance “Aspartate” that when combined with glutamate, these substances act as neurotransmitters in the brain. Having excessive amount of these substances in the brain excite and stimulate brain neurons that allow influx to set off free radicals which in turn kill the cells. Naturally, this will cause serious neural cell damage. That’s why in most cases, memory loss is the major effect.
So it is better to slow down or better, avoid the habit of ingesting aspartame. Slowing down or preventing such habit, like breaking ones daily routine of drinking carbonated drinks, may lessen the possibilities of acquiring adverse health issues due to aspartame. Like what we always say, prevention is better than cure.
